Our Commitment
The Highland Food Service Department is a member of the National School Lunch Program. Our goal is to provide students with nutritional meals. The Lunch Menu follows the recommended Dietary Allowance Guidelines to provide less than 30% total fat, less than 10% saturated fat and minimizing sodium intake. Additionally, Highland Food Service is excited to continue to offer seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables grown locally by farmers of Northeast Ohio, when available.

We appreciate your support and thank you for the opportunity to serve your children.

School Meals Supply Chain Issues Possible During 2021-22 School Year

During the 2021-22 school year, some Child Nutrition Program operators are concerned about possible challenges in purchasing and receiving food through their normal channels. Specifically, some School Food Authorities (SFAs) have experienced unanticipated cancellation of food and supply contracts, lack of availability of certain foods, unexpected substitution of food products, and increased food and supply prices. As a result, some SFAs are voicing concerns about their ability to obtain the types, amounts, and variety of foods needed to serve reimbursable meals consistent with prior planning. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is committed to working together with State agencies, SFAs, the food industry, and other stakeholders to communicate school food supply chain challenges and identify solutions. For school year 2021-22, USDA has provided school meal program flexibilities, waivers, and training resources to help States and SFAs navigate supply chain issues and provide nutritious school meals that children need to learn, grow, and be healthy. PLEASE NOTE:

  • There is the option to purchase Ala Carte items and additional entrée items at each school. To purchase Ala Carte items or additional items, you may send in a check/cash with your child’s name and grade on the outside of the envelope. You may also deposit money into your child's lunch account via PaySchools Central, located at the right column of this page.
  • To qualify for school fee waivers, if applicable, please complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application on Final Forms.

Keep Up to Date with Your Child's Lunch Account & Activity
There is no fee to view and monitor your child's lunch activity or balance by clicking on the "PaySchools Central" link located on the right hand side of this page. PaySchools Central provides the capability to receive a 'low balance' alert and to replenish your student's lunch account automatically. There is a slight transaction fee if you choose to make an on-line payment at this site. Pre-payments can also be made by sending a check or cash with your child to school with your child's name and grade on the outside of the envelope.

Charging a lunch is not permitted. In an emergency, only at the Elementary level, should a student not have lunch money the daily lunch will be provided and their account will be noted as a negative. If the student does not have money on the third day of charging, a substitute lunch will be provided and applied to the negative account. The negative balance has to be repaid.

Information on Student Lunch Account Balances
Any senior with a positive lunch account balance on their account will have the balance posted to off-set any other fee balance due in the school district. If no fee balance exists, the balance will be transferred to a younger sibling’s lunch account.  If there is no younger sibling, the parent will need to request a refund of the lunch account balance, by contacting Tina Hirz, Food Service, thirz@highlandschools.org.

For all other students in grades K-11, any positive lunch account balance will carry forward to the following school year. If your family is withdrawing from the district and your child has a positive balance, please contact Tina Hirz, Food Service, at thirz@highlandschools.org.

If any student has a negative lunch account balance, the payments can be made via PaySchools Central or a check payable to Highland Schools Food Service. Checks can be mailed to the Board of Education Office, 3880 Ridge Road, Medina, Ohio 44256. Please be sure to include your child's name and student ID.
