April 20, 2020 UPDATE
Governor DeWine has announced that Ohio’s schools will remain closed for the duration of this school year and that all students across the state will continue with distance learning. (Please note: The Governor also indicated that there has been no decision, at this time, on whether students will return to school in the fall).
As a result, Highland students will continue with distance learning utilizing the same online platform and programs that they are currently working with through the end of the school year (May 28). Teachers will continue to hold classes, post assignments and connect with students via their Google classrooms, emails, phone calls or video conferencing.
As a reminder, these distance learning days are all counting as instructional days, so in order for students to be counted as “in attendance,” they must continue to login, participate and complete assignments, as provided.
In the weeks ahead, we will be announcing a schedule for how students (with one parent) may return to school to retrieve personal items, clean out their desks/lockers and return any textbooks or other school materials they may have. In order to do this safely, it will require that we stagger students out over the course of several days (limiting the number of students in a classroom/hallway at one time) and strictly adhering to physical distancing guidelines.
As a district, we have begun planning for all potential future scenarios for the fall and will continue to do so over the months ahead. We also ask that parents do the same.
We continue to thank you for your ongoing support of your children’s learning at home. We all recognize that these are very challenging times and thank you for partnering with us.
March 31, 2020 UPDATE
I hope that you and your families are doing well. I know that we all continue to adjust while attempting to find a new (temporary) normal under these circumstances.
With the 3/30/2020announcement from Governor DeWine that Ohio is extending school closures through May 1, the district has worked to develop additional guidance on distance learning for our students/parents.
Below, you will find the Elementary, as well as the High School and Middle School Distance Learning Plans.
The goal of these documents is to provide a general overview of online teaching and learning beginning April 6 through May 1.
We have worked to provide additional structure, appropriate content and common expectations for learning, while still allowing for the flexibility that families need at this time. Our entire staff continues to work from home and are available to assist you and your child with any questions that you may have.
I am so appreciative of all the work that has occurred during this very challenging time. Thank you.
